Day 2 - On the Road Again

We are rejuvenated. The Holiday Inn was more than accommodating, and provided us with a great breakfast to kickstart our day. The best part of the stay: clearly the state-of-the-art QuickCake 3000 - pancake maker of all pancake makers.

Piled back into the van, we take off to finish our journey to Flagler. Excited, motivated, determined to make it to Florida nonstop. We got the gas, we got the energy, we got the spirit!

We got tired. (1.5 hours later - Stop #1: Starbucks)

We got restless. (2 hours later - Stop #2: Restroom)

We got hungry. (2 hours later - Stop #3: Fuel / McDonald's)

We got bored. (1.5 hours later - Stop #4: Florida Welcome Center)

Hey look, we made it!! With no coaches yelling at us to go faster, we're happy to take our time and enjoy the journey for all that it is. Time is passed with memory games, singing out of pitch, traffic trivia, trail-mix, and sleeping. We like our sleep.

Our H4H hostess, Joanna, brought us a lovely dinner sponsored by Papa John's, and gave us a quick rundown of the church we get to stay at for the week. Our time here has been slightly limited due to senior citizens and their Bridge playing. However, we are extremely grateful to have a roof over our heads when the sun goes down.

Day 1 - Is this weird?

It's 6AM and 17 college students are awake. Weird. It's spring break. WEIRD. We are excited, and ready to sit in a poorly ventilated van for the next 10 hours. WEIRD!!

What's going on?

If you're reading this, you might already know. Just in case, I'm here to keep you "in the loop", telling you of all (at least most) the "happenings" that are happening, hopefully making you feel just a little bit warmer, and closer to us.

We are a group of 18 student-athletes (and 2 Graduate Assistants), looking to make a difference in the world. We represent a variety of sports from North Central College of Naperville, IL. Cross Country, Soccer, Track & Field, tennis, and Volleyball. Our mission: Assist Habitat for Humanity with the construction of homes for those in need in Flagler County, FL.

I thought you said there were only 17 college students awake..?

Someone is missing! Hurry, post to facebook, twitter, instagram, pinterest!

                                              HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN?!?

Uh oh, no status update. NOW WHAT? Thankfully, an intelligent student remembers what cell phones used to be used for. A phone call is made and sleeping beauty is on his way.

After our 30 minute delay, we're ready to embark on our alternative spring break. We hit the road towards Chattanooga, Tennessee. The vans are full of overpacked bags, laughter, uncomfortable sleep, and spectacular views.

Along the way, a pit stop near a Pets Mart allowed for a nice stretch with some new, furry friends (adoptable puppies), and some refreshing snacks (not dog treats).

Within the hour of checking in to our hotel, the fitness center has reached maximum capacity. After a quick dinner, a brief exploration leads to an encounter with some local townies and true southern hospitality.

We have survived Day 1 - the first leg of two on our way to Flagler.
